Saints v Charlton Match Preview

Saints host Charlton in a must win game for both teams. Saints are still striving to do the impossible and close the gap to 6th place and Charlton are still vying for an automatic promotion place.

Vital Quotes:

Southampton Team News:

Radhi jaidi is out for a couple of weeks. David Connolly hopes to be ready and Wayne Thomas is on his way back.

Player to watch: Lee Barnard

I feel Lee will have a good game on saturday as Saints will surely play better against this Charlton side that is still in the hunt for automatic promotion.

Charlton Athletic Team News:

Deon Burton is expected to return. Captain Nick Bailey could be back after coming onas a sub on monday.Keeper Rob Elliot is likely to miss out as are Kelly Youga, Grant Basey and Leon McKenzie who are slowly heading back.

Player to watch: Nick Bailey

The captain could start in a massive six pointer. His steadying influence will help his team.

Head to Head

Southampton have a good record overall against Charlton at home.

However over the last couple of seasons Saints have drawn away and lost at home to the Addicks in league games.

This season we have drawn away in the league and won 2-1 in the JPT.

Ref Watch:

Mr Grant Hegley assisted by Mr S Knapp & Mr L Swabey 4th Official Mr C Powell

Match Prediction:

This is a tough game as we found when we played the Addicks in the JPT. 3-2

It's a big match isn't it. Your play off chances are virtually over aren't they but a win here and you could be back in the battle. A win for us and we could get up to second? Should be a good match though and a 3-2 could be about right, but to us if we're lucky!

I've got this sneaky feeling that we'll just about get the win we need.

This is showing all the ingredients of a recipe for failure. I just hope that one team doesn't drag the other down by scoring a late goal for a draw. We both need a win and for some reason that means we will end up with a draw.

A point is a point and could make a difference in the end but I think we'll see two sides going all out to get all 3 points as we both know we need them. Anything short of victory for you though and it's play-off hopes over.
