Wigan v Saints Preview

Saints travel north for their first ever league meeting at the home of Wigan Athletic.

In the reverse fixture Wigan beat Saints 2-0 and did so playing the football that they are renowned for.

Currently they sit 3 points below us hovering just above the relegation zone on goal difference.

Wigan have shown that on their day they are a match for just about every side in the league. They always tend to be a threat going forward and if we are to stand a chance of defeating them, keeping their strike force of Di Santo and Espinoza at bay may be key.

Vital Quotes:

Wigan Team News:

Paul Scharner has returned on loan and could start. Arouna Kone is still playing in the Africa Nations Cup and will be missing.

Player to watch: Franco Di Santo

Franco Di Santo could prove to be a thorn in our side and is one of those our defence will need to watch.

Southampton Team News:

Adam Lallana returning will be a huge boost. Fonte is still out and Guly do Prado has joined him on the side lines.

Player to watch: Adam Lallana

Adam could ignite a Saints charge with his skill and scoring ability.

Match Facts & Stats

Ref Watch:

Andre Marriner will referee Saturday`s game, he will be assisted by Mr D Cann and Mr S C Richards. Mark Clattenburg is the fourth official.

Match Prediction:

A game which both teams need to win but I am hoping for a reversal of form from the clash at St Mary's, 1-3

We'd certainly be very happy with that scoreline :)

Very true but this is not an easy game to call. Tempted to go for 1-2.

Lallana returning will be a big boost for us. Maybe Forren starting at the back as well.
VSrednwhite
Tight, but 2-1 is my feeling today.

A lot may depend on team selection as to how we play and prosper.
