Dreadful season ends badly at Forest

Nottingham Forest came from behind to beat relegated Southampton 3-1 at the City Ground.

Bradley Wright-Phillips put the Southerners up in the 16th minute, but late goals from Joe Garner, Luke Chambers and Robbie Earnshaw sealed the victory for Forest.

It was the relegated side that started the brighter, and Jason Euell came close, only to see his shot hit the post.

The deadlock was broken minutes later, when Adam Lallana accurately found Wright-Phillips who was able to slot the ball under ex-Saint Paul Smith in the Forest goal.

Southampton's lead lasted until the 73rd minute when Joe Garner, similarly to his goal at St. Mary's, spectacularly lobbed the stranded Kelvin Davis to give Forest hope with 15 minutes to go.

Things went from bad to worse for the Saints with just three minutes to go when Chambers headed home to give Forest the lead, before Robbie Earnshaw scored his 17th goal of the season to complete the late surge.

The result took Forest's unbeaten run to six games, and the Saints have to focus on overcoming the ten point penalty which welcomes them next season in the third tier of English football.
