Tranmere 2 - Southampton 1

Prenton Park

06/03/2010

Attendance: 6,187

Tranmere v Southampton

Southampton had their play-off hopes sent crashing as they failed to beat lowly Tranmere Rovers away. Unlucky with a lot of refereeing decisions the team appeared to lose control as the second half passed us by. Missed chances and at least two penalty claims were turned down before Tranmere were given a very soft one by a very very poor referee.

Star Player

Kelvin Davis made a couple of saves and very nearly got to the penalty.

Player Ratings

Davis - 8*

Good saves and even made some good shouts when collecting crosses.

Harding - 6

Poor display today against his usual fare.

Jaidi - 7

Good as always in the air but poor distribution.

Fonte - 8

Usual solid performance although given more to do today and was sometimes stretched.

Otsemobor - 7

Kept busier in the second half and made a couple of great intercepting tackles.

Lallana - 6.5

Showed his touches and flicks and kept trying. Missed a couple of good chances.

Schneiderlin - 6.5

Couldn't get his game going today and got caught in possession too often. Kept trying.

Hammond - 7

As busy as usual without the end product.

Puncheon - 7.5

Jason wasn't given the ball where he likes it much but did keep trying. Helped lay on the chance for the first goal.

Lambert - 6

Not up to his normal standard today. Kept moaning to the referee about the fouls that he wasn't being given.

Barnard - 8

Worked tirelessly as usual and scored our goal. missed one difficult chance but always looked likely.

Poor performance from the lads today. We need to find a way of beating the poorer teams away or we will be stuck down here for longer than we want.

Poor performance but if we had gone in in front I don't think that Tranmere would have been able to come back against us. We were perhaps guilty of trying too hard to win but not much more. At least the boys tried.

There isn't much one can say to make us feel better after that performance. It seems obvious to me that we need something different for when the master plan isn't working. For the times when we just are not firing we need another way to play.

The gloom has returned once more to all things Saints. Mad. We have come a long way since August and we are heading in the right direction. Keep the faith for Christ sake.

We were not lucky with some decisions. The team lost and that always makes Monday a bad day for me as most of my friends support teams inthe top league.
