Saints Held By Ipswich

In a disappointing game Southampton were held by Ipswich to a 1-1 draw as the fight for promotion continued.

Southampton had the chances in the first half to have held a good lead but failed to open the scoring. With Ipswich doing much better in the second half only some great saves from Kelvin Davis stopped the tractor Boys from leaving with the points.

Saints opened brightly and some good movement from Chung Lee kept the Ipswich team on their toes. Though no clear cut chances were made Saints were clearly the more potent force and it looked only a matter of time before a breakthrough would be made.

The fact it didn't materialize must have left the team deflated as after the break it was Ipswich who began to hold all of the aces. In fact Davis had already kept Saints in the game when Rickie Lambert scored.

Steve de Ridder had been brought on as a sub and after he had collected a sweet pass from Richardson he did well to cross for Rickie to smash the ball into the net.

With 15 minutes remaining it looked possible that this would be the winner. Sadly after another great piece of work by Davis Ipswich scored with a lucky deflected shot which flew over the keeper.

By the end it could have been worse but the scores ended up level and two valuable points had been dropped.

Yet again our keeper had a major part to play with some excellent saves keeping us in the game.
