Davis Is My Unsung Hero

Davis Is My Unsung Hero
Twelve games gone and Saints sit prettily in seventh place. After a slow start and the bedding in of a new defensive unit, Saints results have improved. We are yet to see a full ninety minutes of sustained play at their best, but at least against Bournemouth in the first half we saw Saints produce their best 45 minutes of the season. The only matter of concern is the fact that against Bournemouth and Leicester Saints took their foot off the pedal at half time and made hard work for themselves.

Mane and Pelle have made the headlines, but it is unsung hero Steven Davis who I want to single out for praise. He rarely puts in an under par shift and the big difference this season seems to be that Koeman has instructed him to venture forward more. This has resulted in two fine goals so far and will hopefully yield many more. Clasie also deserves a mention after an unfortunate injury prone start to his Saints career we are finally seeing glimpses of why Koeman rates him so highly. Even though he plays in approximately the same position as Schneiderlin, they have differing talents and should not really be directly compared. With further game time I'm confident he will grow into his Saints shirt and contributing more for the team. Tadic still seems an enigma. One moment brilliant and the next wasteful. He needs to develop his consistency to fully play his part in the Southampton cause.

Six points in the next two games against Sunderland and Stoke would further solidify Saints position in the top seven and would put them in a strong position before December comes along.

I just want to give the Saints management some well deserved kudos for lowering the ticket prices of the league cup games so that whole families can afford a night out at St. Mary's. Not only dies it make the games affordable, but it creates a great atmosphere when all the seats are full.
