Comments...
Colchester made Southampton fight at the start and kept the pressure up when they could but were unable to stop the visitors winning. A well taken first goal quickly followed by Colchester having striker Mooney sent off gave Saints the advantage. Hammond scoring early in the second half gave Saints some breathing space and by the end they were fairly comfortable though unable to completely relax.

Stats say it was a close run affair but my mates seem to think we won well. They may be slightly biased but great win for us after Walsall and I enjoyed my drink tonight.

Listening, it seemed a close run affair with the U's doing their best to unsettle us at the start. Succeeding as well for a while. We scrapped and got the win we needed and had the pleasure of seeing Aaron Martin play.

Over 50 years since we won at Colchester and boy did we have to fight. Lambert was brilliant for us today and Kelvin apart from one panic looked assured.
