Southampton started the match knowing that they were as good as promoted, as they had such a big advantage with goal difference added to the three point lead they held over Huddersfield. Always holding the upper hand Saints swept into a two goal lead and though the Saddlers replied at the end of the first half, they had little to spoil the show apart from good honest endeavour.
